August 21

One Week is the first comedy short
Buster Keaton released after signing a contract
to make 20 mini-film in 3 years.   In the movie
he has just gotten married and tries to build a house
blissfully unaware  his romantic rival has switched
the directions making it impossible for
everything to fit together properly.

He does the best he can,
creating an imperfect structure
which he finishes just in time
to host a dinner party for the in-laws
who pretend everything is perfectly normal
until a strong wind turns the house like
an out of control carousel.

Itís not just a very funny comedy
But a metaphor for parts of my own life
in ways that would only go together
imperfectly if I tried to put it into a poem.

You are like the invited inlaws pretending
It makes sense, and trying to sort of understand
What I mean.  You are even  willing to accept
Thereís something interesting in these
Words.  I hope there is and thank you for
Your leap of faith.
So does Buster.
